RHACS Supports Qianfeng Daoism (UK)

Picture
The Richard Hunn Association for Ch’an Study actively supports the practice of Qianfeng Daoism, and is directly involved with this path of self-cultivation through Charles Luk (1898-1978) who trained with Grand Master Zhao Bichen (1860-1942) and other notable Daoists prior to his leaving mainland China in 1949.  Today, the Qianfeng Daoist lineage is represented by Master Zhao Ming Wang (of Beijing) – the great grandson of Zhao Bichen – and Master Niu Sheng Xian amongst others.  Qianfeng Daoism (UK) was founded in 1970 following the publishing of Charles Luk’s translation of Zhao Bichen’s original Chinese language developmental manual entitled ‘‘The Secrets of Cultivation of Essential Nature and Eternal Life’ (性命法訣明旨 – Xing Ming Fa Jue Ming Zhi)’ – rendered into English as ‘Taoist Yoga’.  From 1970 – 1978 this group was led by Charles Luk – until his passing – where it was taken over by Richard Hunn (1949-2006).

'Licchavi Vimalakirti came to the foot of that tree and said to me, ’Reverend Sariputra, this is not the way to absorb yourself in contemplation. You should absorb yourself in contemplation so that neither body nor mind appear anywhere in the triple world. You should absorb yourself in contemplation in such a way that you can manifest all ordinary behavior without forsaking cessation. You should absorb yourself in contemplation in such a way that you can manifest the nature of an ordinary person without abandoning your cultivated spiritual nature.'
