RHACS: UK Support for the International Wisdom Society

Picture
The International Wisdom Society (IWS) is an academic organisation founded in mainland China, which has been established to develop and coordinate the project of Wisdom Studies around the world.  The concept of ‘wisdom’ as used by the IWS emphasises the use of the facilities and capabilities of the human mind to its highest possible degree of cognitive development.  Although Wisdom Studies is an academic concept emerging from China, it is the determination of the IWS that this project be developed worldwide, and that in every country and region, the study of wisdom be encouraged as a distinct subject.  To this end, the IWS has founded an International Committee to recruit and organise suitable Regional Branches to represent geographical areas outside of China, whose task is to initiate local Wisdom Studies programmes following a theme or subject decided yearly by the IWS.  This cooperation is set to evolve around the establishment of an International Wisdom Day – which will eventually have United Nations recognition.  RHACS supports the development of the Wisdom Studies Project in the United Kingdom.  The following documents have been translated from the original Chinese language into English, and serve to explain, define, and regulate the International Wisdom Society and its activities from with and outside of
China:

Introduction: International Wisdom Society

Zhangjiagang Wisdom Studies Declaration (2013)

International Wisdom Day Regulations

'Licchavi Vimalakirti came to the foot of that tree and said to me, ’Reverend Sariputra, this is not the way to absorb yourself in contemplation. You should absorb yourself in contemplation so that neither body nor mind appear anywhere in the triple world. You should absorb yourself in contemplation in such a way that you can manifest all ordinary behavior without forsaking cessation. You should absorb yourself in contemplation in such a way that you can manifest the nature of an ordinary person without abandoning your cultivated spiritual nature.'
