This section serves as an archive for original (and reliable) English translations of important Chinese Ch'an Buddhist (and related) texts. The translation of these texts continues the mission initiated by Master Xu Yun (1840-1959), who envisioned the Dharma spreading out of China and into the West. The Richard Hunn Association for Ch'an Study continues the work of Charles Luk (1898-1978) and his main disciple Richard Hunn (1949-2006) through the efforts of Adrian Chan-Wyles, Upasika Yukyern, Upasika Sheng Hua and others. RHACS has had direct contact with Ch'an Buddhist practitioners and spiritual authorities in China, who have where required, granted official permission for these renderings to go ahead, whilst simultaneously confirming the accuracy of the finished translation. In this way, the transmission of the Ch'an Dharma to the West remains pure and correct.

'Licchavi Vimalakirti came to the foot of that tree and said to me, ’Reverend Sariputra, this is not the way to absorb yourself in contemplation. You should absorb yourself in contemplation so that neither body nor mind appear anywhere in the triple world. You should absorb yourself in contemplation in such a way that you can manifest all ordinary behavior without forsaking cessation. You should absorb yourself in contemplation in such a way that you can manifest the nature of an ordinary person without abandoning your cultivated spiritual nature.'
